1o: A letter

Dearest Lily,

In a week and a half you'll be three months old. You're only a a quarter of the way to the end of your first year and so much has happened already.

You are my world. I look forward to having you wake me up every morning with your "I'm hungry" whimpers just so I can watch you give me a sleepy smile while I sing to you as you try and wake up. The smiles you give me make me know that you know who Mommy is and that makes me all the happier.

You make me smile and laugh with all you do. The way you move your pacifier and shove your entire right fist in your mouth, or choose to chew your left thumb instead. How if I kiss you too close to the corner of your mouth you turn and try to eat my face (and have actually succeeded to gnaw on my cheek a few times.) When I lay you down for bed only to come into the room a minute later and find you in a half push-up position with your head poking up above the bassinet. The fights you put up so you won't fall asleep. The way you push yourself off the side of the tub. When you smile at my voice or yell at me because you're either hungry or sleepy and don't want to be laying on your back or sitting down. How I leave you in your crib, on your stomach, your head up, panting with hunger so I can warm your bottle and come back to find you flat on your back with your feet in the air and a look on your face that reads, "What just happened?" The fit you throw when you want attention, and the smiles and giggles you give when you get it. The stories you take hours to tell. The list can go on, and I love everything you do.

You really are my world, Lily, and I'm thankful and blessed to have you with me. You were my best Christmas present and no words could fully express the love I have for you. I almost lost you, twice, and I'm full of joy every day when I see your face and your dimples when you smile. I know I tell you this every night when I lay you to sleep, but I love you. I hope that one day you'll understand just how much.

o9: 2 months old

Lily has her two-month appointment today. I don't think they'll give her the vaccs since she has a cold. She is getting better. She'll still cry a little in her sleep, or have difficulty breathing from the congestion, but it's slowling receding. I'm glad that throughout this whole thing, the only one who had the fever was me. I give her medicine regularly, but I still feel awful that I got her sick.

She turned two months yesterday. We did a two-month dance around the room where I almost tripped from the swing, and my mother sang "happy second month to you." I still can't believe how fast she grows. I'm now putting her in 3/6 month clothes, and that was about a week before she was even two months. Her 0/3's are starting to be a bit snug, mostly because she's so long and pudgy round the middle.

She gave me a face yesterday when she was in her swing that her father makes. He usually makes it when I've said something ridiculous and he's waiting for me to catch it. Just stares at me with one eyebrow raised. She makes the same face.

It's a nice feeling when your child holds your hand...even if it is because they fidget so much. Lily's getting sick. I feel like a bad mommy; it's because I'm sick (this time with a very bad cold) and yesterday I thought it was just severe allergies and I cuddle with her a lot. She was a bit cranky. She's used to lots of lovin', and I couldn't give her that today. I could only pick her up to feed an burp her as I don't want her getting worse.

I love holding hands with my daughter. She looks so much like me now...with her daddy's forehead and ears.

o7: A message from Lily

Lily says:

Big Smile

We took pictures on Valentine's day, and on the last picture she took, she was cheesing just like the above. I get the portraits on March 8, so when I do, I'll definitely post them.

o6: She'll be 7 weeks tomorrow

Lily's gotten so big! She has three chins, she so fat. :) She also looks more and more like me each day.

Things she does:
A VERY decent half-push-up when she is face down and doesn't want to sleep
Cries on her back if she's sleepy (she only likes sleeping on her stomach, her doing, not mine)
Gurgles and coos. Sometimes they sound like actual words--such as "arroz" (rice), "agua" (water), and "jugo" (juice)---ironically, they're all in Spanish.
Cries when you take the bottle away from her when she's not ready, even though I have to to burp her.
"Talks" to you. Even when it's not the best time to talk---as in when she's got a bottle in her mouth.
Yells to get your attention...

She's too damn cute.

o5:

Lily has grown so much already. She turns a month old tomorrow and she's gotten heavy, can lift her head pretty well, has had a cute little naval since her baptism, and follows things with her eyes. She's also nosey (like mother like daughter). My little chunky munkey is so cute, though. I know I'm a bit biased since she's mine, but damn it, you know I'm right.

She throws some tantrums when she doesn't have what she wants right away. Last night she was just that wound up. I had already given her 6 ounces of formula, with a teaspoon of baby cereal and an ounce of apple juice w/ water. She was still screaming for more. So I stuck the pacifier in her mouth to calm her down.

She had diarrhoea all day yesterday, so I've minimized the amount of cereal I put in her bottle and I've let her drink some water, or water mixed with apple juice. It went down today, so I was relieved. She eats like Justin -- when he does eat, anyway. But even when she's crying, screaming, or whining, she's still too damn adorable. I mess with her so much. She can't stand it sometimes, but I have her spoiled with it. She loves to be held.

She gets very quite and stares at you if you sing or talk to her. She follows the rattle. She'll try and follow you around the room if she can, and if she can't see you but she hears you, she'll turn her head in your general direction. Hell, she'll even stop eating just to pay attention to you. I love my little munster.

Today is my one year anniversary with Justin and I recieved my gift yesterday; with it were some books for Lily. They were absolutely wonderful. There's a Disney Fairies book titled Lily's Pesky Plant, and then he also sent Winnie the Pooh in Spanish (Winny de Puh), and My Love For You..., which is this tiny little cardboard type book that's written in both English and Spanish. I was very pleased. :) He knows I want to teach Lily both languages like Mother taught us as children. I can't wait to read them to her when she's a little older.

I take pictures of her almost daily. I just wish my scanner worked.

o4: Milestones

Yesterdays milestones:
Lily had her baptism (where she slept through the entire thing), which she looked uber cute in her little Christening gown. I changed her into a pretty pink onesie, and I think she was picked up too much because she threw up on herself and cried. I felt bad.

Today:
She's up to eating 5 oz. I admire all women who breastfed their children (especially those who actually managed it after a c-section). I do not have the energy or patience for it. More power to you. I also had her lay on my chest while I was flat on my back...she lifted her head completely up, and stared at me for a while.

I'm really starting to hate the baby talk my mom and sister use on Lily. It drives me nuts. Talk to my daughter like a human being, she's not a moron. I talk to her normally like I would to anyone, no matter what age. Man do I hate baby talk.

She's starting to be a chunky ass. :) And she likes it when you sing to her.
