Grabbed the girls this morning and went to Head Start today.
Lily was a little hyper at first, but after a fe minutes she calmed down a bit and interacted with the other kids as well as the teachers. She fit it nicely and after a half hour of being there did not want to leave! She introduced herself, was very well-mannered with her please, thank-you, no thanks, and you're welcomes, and impressed everyone with how smart she is.
I let the teacher know where she stood developmentally. She's not much of a talker, though she tries, but she can identify numbers from 0 to 15 and her entire alphabet in both cases. She knows both her primary and secondary colors, and all her shapes. She still has some difficulty with diamond and octagon, but not much. To top it off she can spell and write her name and we've been practicing writing all the other letters of the alphabet and the numbers (which I have already mentioned in previous entries.)
The head teacher (all of their names evade me) said that she was very advanced for her age and that I've done a really good job with her. I'm very proud. I'm the only one working with the girls during the day so I can't help but feel very proud of my girls' development when they are right on track or better. J helps out, but during the work week he only gets an average of three hours to spend with the girls, and one hour of that is spent eating and making dinner. I know he wishes he could spend more time with the girls. I know both the girls and I do. :( At least they get plenty of play time with Daddy on the weekend. ;)
That's about it. Did numbers 1-6 worksheets today at the library, came home, had lunch, and a nap. We're going back on Thursday to fill out an application. We'll be put on a waiting list and then contacted when she turns three to see when she starts the program. I'm super excited. She had so much fun there.
Did I mention how proud I am of how smart my baby girl is? I can't believe in just a little over three months she will be 3. She's already fully potty-trained and her speech has developed so much over the past few months. I try and work with her as much as I can with her speech by adding new words to her vocabulary. We got outside every day, or almost every day, and we grab things from the outside, observe them, and then put a name to them. I'm teaching her the different plants and leaves we see. And different forms of moving our feet. (march, run, walk, etc)
Carla, her Learning for Life teacher, is also very impressed at how smart she is. She comes by once a month to check on her development and to show me what I should be teaching her. I love this program, both my girls are in it. Anyway, I think that's about it.
Physically, Lily's the size of the average four-year-old. Kid is absolutely enormous. LOL. She is currently getting over a little bug she aquired from her father, but all that's left now is some mood swings and a runny nose. She's a terror at home but she's such a social butterfly and loves being around people. I'm amazed at how fast she's growing. She's not my little baby for much longer. She helps out a lot with her baby sister. Absolutely adores being with her and playing with her. She's still learning not to be so rough with the baby but those two are completely enamored of each other. She helps when feeding Iris, and with diaper changes, and on walks. (Currently, she's singing Twinkle, Twinkle to her "baby sistuh") She's such a big girl now.
Why can't the little ones stay little forever? Oh well, at least I get to watch her grow. <3
OMG!!!
I can't believe I've forgotten to update this thing for the baby like I had planned. Shame on me! Seriously. Can you believe it's been almost a year? The last thing I wrote about Iris was when she came into this world.
Well, she's 10 and a half months now and so tiny in comparison to her sister. At this point, Lily was enormous (and still is) but Iris is as big as Lily was at 7 months. She's a little over 20 pounds and around 27 inches. At her 9 month check up she was 19 lbs 5 oz and 27 inches tall. She's such a cutie though.
She loves to play with her big sister. She's always crawling behind her and observing what she is doing. She's very observant. Doesn't talk much with others are around, but when left to her own devices she's always laughing or "singing" to herself. She'll just randomly space out and then start to dance and sing to herself when she's bored. She now waves, too, and says hi when doing so. Just the basics in speech, though. Hi/Bye, Mama, Dada, and "Yeah". Loves to point and couch cruise, too. She absolutely hates being in her playpen or crib; has to constantly keep moving.
I still nurse a lot, but that's only because I, personally, just don't want to stop yet. She's so spoiled. And she LOVES to eat. She's eating everything we eat now, even though she still doesn't have any teeth.
I still can't believe how fast she's grown. In a month and a half she'll be one and she won't be my little infant anymore. :( Why do they grow so fast?!
